Western Red Cedar
Western Red Cedar shingles are available in a variety of designer shapes and colors, making them a natural choice for any architectural or aesthetic design.

About the wood
Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) grows in coastal forests and in the drier interior forests of British Columbia, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

It is British Columbia’s official tree and is also known as canoe-cedar, pacific red-cedar, shinglewood or arborvitae (tree of life).

In its natural, unfinished state, Western Red Cedar has a richly textured grain. Its warm, mellow color tones range from light amber to deep honey brown. It remains subtly aromatic, and the characteristic fragrance of cedar adds another dimension to its universal appeal.

Western Red Cedar is an extremely durable wood that contains natural oils that act as preservatives to help the wood resist insect attack and decay. It is also a dimensionally stable wood that lies flat and stays straight. These characteristics, combined with Western Red Cedar’s natural insulation properties make shingles made from this versatile wood a preferred material for outdoor applications.
